After identifying some issues with creating a reggae magazine I decided to choose a different genre I have more knowledge about which is why I am now basing my magazine on alternative pop. The following videos fit into this genre.

Analysing Previous Student Work

 

Initial Stage 1 Planning

I am going to create a reggae magazine aimed at an audience aged 15+ who like the genre. The magazine will be available online, in WHSmiths and music shops such as HMV. There will be monthly issues for the price of £4.20 per issue, there are not a lot of reggae magazines which is a good selling point.
My main coverline will be an interview with the artist on the cover who I will take a face shot of and use live and posed shots on the interview inside.

Inspirational Texts

I chose these five music videos as they are the type of music that I will feature in my magazine, I have older music from the likes of Bob Marley and newer artists such as Miserable Man.

Preliminary Task Flatplan

 

I used microsoft word to create my flatplan. I included the main features of a magazine cover.
I'm using one main image to take up most of the cover which will link to my main coverline, the subheading will give a little bit more information on my main coverline but won't take up much space on the cover. There will be three smaller, less important coverlines to the right of my main image and main coverline.
I am putting my masthead across the top of my magazine so it is the first thing readers notice.

The flatplan for my contents page includes essential information such as page numbers and headlines so if readers are looking for anything specific they can find it easily. The two images I've put in the contents are quite big so there isn't too much writing and the page interests the reader.

Magazine cover deconstructions

I looked at three magazine covers and picked out key features to help identify which features I might like to use on my magazine cover which I will create for coursework.

Summary

I like the masthead on Rolling Stone so I might put the masthead in front of the image on my magazine cover. I didn’t like the way MOJO had five people on the cover. Billboard looks too crowded with the bright background and too many colours so I might do my magazine with a much simpler colour scheme.

Developing photoshop skills

Today I learned a variety of skills such as adding mastheads and barcodes to images on photoshop using different tools.
